Welcome to MEND

MEND  is a group programme to help men stop being violent/abusive towards their partners located in Carlow/Kilkenny, South Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford. It also provides a service for the partners or ex-partners of the men on the programme and is coordinated by the South East Domestic Violence Intervention Programme (S.E.D.V.I.P)

Are you worried about your behaviour towards you partner?
Have you been violent or abusive?
Do you shout at her a lot?
Is she ever scared of you?

Have you engaged in ....

Physical abuse
Pushing, shoving, hitting, bruising, choking, punching, kicking or any act that results in a physical injury to your partner or ex-partner.

Sexual Abuse
Forced sex, raped, pressured her for sex, used sex to control, expectations around sexual entitlement or punished her for not participating in sexual acts.

Mental and Emotional Abuse
Telling her she is usless, a bad mother, preventing her from seeing her friends and family, using jealousy to control, accusing her of infidelity of blaming her for your behaviour.

Threats and Intimidation
Threatening to harm her, the children or yourself if she leaves, saying that the children will be taken from her if she leaves.

Damaging/ destroying property
Breaking and smashing objects in anger. This is another way of controlling your partner through fear.

Financial Abuse
Witholding money, controlling how money is spent, making her ask for money or probhibiting her from working

Domestic Violence is a Crime

WE BELIEVE.......

  • that the SAFETY OF PARTNERS AND CHILDREN IS OUR PRIORITY when working with men who are violent.
  • that domestic violence and abuse are never acceptable.
  • that men must first take personal responsibility for their violence and abuse in order to change.
  • that domestic violence and abuse includes physical, emotional, sexual and economic abuse used to maintain power and control.
  • that violence is a learned behaviour which can be unlearned.
  • that VIOLENT MEN CAN CHANGE and END THEIR VIOLENCE.

Living Without Violence

This service is for men who want to change their abusive behaviour and to learn how to have relationships that are based on love and trust and not on power and control.

Meetings will be held in a non judgemental setting for men who want to change their behaviour and improve their relationships. Men will be challenged about their abusive behaviour and supported to make changes that will keep their partners or ex-partners, their children and themselves safe.

Meetings will be held once a week and there is no cost to attend this service. Partners and ex-partners will also be contacted and offered support by trained Partner Support facilitators.
