SEDVIP/MEND Wexford Website Launch

The South East Domestic Violence Intervention Programme is pleased to announce the launch of our new website MEND.ie

The S.E.D.V.I.P co-ordinates four Intervention Programmes in the South East: Carlow/Kilkenny, South Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford.

This site gives us an opportunity to profile MEND [Men Ending Domestic Abuse] the new name for our programme that is being piloted by the local group in Wexford [formerly Wexford MOVE]

On satisfactory conclusion of the Wexford MEND pilot the S.E.D.V.I.P will adopt this name for the programmes throughout the Region.

Along with the new Website the launch of the Wexford MEND pilot was accompanied by a poster and leafletting campaign from which we already have very positive feedback. Some of the images have been integrated into the website.

In choosing the name MEND [Men Ending Domestic Abuse] we are focusing on the fact that we work with male perpetrators of domestic violence (while providing one-to-one support for their partners or ex-partners) and within that context challenge and support men to take responsibility for and change their violent behaviour.

MEND [Men ending domestic abuse] is easy to remember as a name and focuses more on the opportunity for men to engage in change rather than on women as victims.

Choosing a new name is part of a process of consolidation as well as a launching pad for future developments that will see the Programmes in the South East becoming robust, effective programmes for change while ensuring the safety of women and children.

We are grateful for the funding provided through Cosc from the National Development Fund and recognise the importance of all the agencies, statutory and non-statutory, who are partners in this work and in particular the Men’s Development Network who manage the Programme regionally.

We appreciate the energy and commitment of those men and women who deliver the group programme for the men and the women who provide support for the partners or ex-partners.
